What is composite or synthetic roofing?

Composite and synthetic roofing products are engineered to reproduce the visual character of traditional materials such as slate or cedar shake, without the weight, cost or maintenance those materials can involve. It's a broad category — product composition, warranty, weight, installation method, impact rating and lifespan vary significantly by brand.

We haven't confirmed a specific composite brand in our current material lineup, so we won't name one or claim a specific impact class here. What we can do is help you evaluate whether a composite system fits your home, your design goals and the existing roof assembly once we know what you're after.

Why choose this system

  • Designed to echo the look of slate or cedar shake
  • An engineered alternative to natural roofing materials
  • Product composition and specifications vary by brand and system
  • We'll help match the right composite product to your home's design
  • Backed by Pro.Found's 20-year residential workmanship warranty

Our approach

How Pro.Found handles this project

  1. 01

    Roof / site assessment

We look at the existing roof, deck condition and any problem areas before recommending a system.

  2. 02

    System & material recommendation

Jon explains the options that suit the building, the budget and the roofline — not a one-size-fits-all pitch.

  3. 03

    Written scope & estimate

A defined scope and a fixed price, in writing, before anything is scheduled.

  4. 04

    Deck & substrate preparation

Decking, insulation or substrate is repaired or prepared as required before the new system goes on.

  5. 05

    Installation

The roofing system is installed to the manufacturer's assembly, not just the top visible layer.

  6. 06

    Flashing & detail work

Valleys, walls, penetrations, skylights and edges are detailed as part of the install, not an afterthought.

  7. 07

    Cleanup & final review

The site is cleaned up and the finished roof is walked before we call the job done.

  8. 08

    Warranty information

You get clear information on the Pro.Found workmanship warranty and any applicable manufacturer coverage.

20

20-Year Pro.Found Workmanship Warranty

Manufacturer product warranties vary by roofing system and product. We can explain the applicable coverage when preparing your quote.

Common questions

Is composite the same as rubber roofing?

"Composite" covers a range of engineered products, some rubber-based and some not. We'll be specific about the actual product once we've confirmed the right fit for your home.

Does composite roofing look like real slate or cedar?

Composite products are designed to reproduce that visual character, though the exact look varies by manufacturer and product line.

How long does composite roofing last?

Lifespan varies significantly by brand and product — we won't quote a number until we know the exact system.

What warranty does Pro.Found provide?

Residential roof replacements carry a 20-year Pro.Found workmanship warranty. Manufacturer product warranties vary by system and are explained during your estimate.

What happens during an estimate?

Jon assesses the roof himself, walks you through the system options and follows up with a written scope and a fixed price. No sales appointment, no pressure.
